Guiding Principles

Affordable Housing Company Pty Ltd and all its related entities respect the rights and privacy of all individuals with whom it transacts. AHC is committed to ensuring that all directors and staff involved in the management of the company comply at all times with their obligations under the Privacy Act 1998 and Privacy Amendment Act 2000. AHC is bound by the National Privacy Principles (NPP) from December 21, 2001. Under the NPP, an organisation is only entitled to collect personal information where that information is necessary for one or more of its functions or activities; and must only collect that information by lawful and fair means and not in an unreasonably intrusive way. The following privacy policy details how AHC collects, manages, uses, discloses and access’ all personal information we hold, that is, information, or an opinion, about an individual, whose identity is apparent, or can be reasonably ascertained, from that information or opinion. This includes information we have collected from people through our display homes, over the phone through our customer serve centres and over the internet.

Information held

AHC currently holds some information in relation to its customers, suppliers, service providers, applicants, employees, temporary staff, contractors, and all other workplace participants. This information includes, but is not limited to:

Customer Relevant Information such as:

  • Information obtained to assist in managing client and business relationships
  • Information obtained for the purposes of market research and
  • Any other information deemed necessary to carry out and conduct any transaction of a business nature

Supplier / Service Provider Relevant Information such as:

  • Information obtained to assist in managing client and business relationships
  • Information obtained for the purposes of market research and
  • Any other information deemed necessary to carry out and conduct any transaction of a business nature

Employee, Temporary Staff, Contractor and Applicant Relevant Information such as;

  • Tax file numbers
  • Candidate information submitted and obtained from the Candidate and other sources in connection with applications for work;
  • Information documenting the work history of workplace participants (such as their letter of appointment and bank account details as well as records of any salary adjustments, work performance information, salary sacrifice documents and sick leave taken).

There are a variety of reasons why AHC is required to hold this information. Some of the reasons include:

  • Ensuring that both AHC and any workplace participants are meeting their obligations under relevant legislation as well as their contract of employment
  • To conduct its main business function - building
  • Placement operations
  • Staff management
  • Training
  • Client and business relationship management
  • Marketing
  • Ensuring the health, safety and welfare of all workplace participants at times when they are performing work for AHC; and
  • Allowing appropriate insurance cover where appropriate for these workplace participants



  • Information will only be collected with the consent of all parties involved.
  • All candidates registering for employment that are requested to complete psychometric assessments will be asked to sign a verification and consent clause.
  • Information will only be collected that is necessary in order to carry out the function of MPH’s work.
  • Information will only be collected in a fair and lawful manner.

Management and use

  • All individuals will be informed why we are collecting information about them and what other parties we might refer it to. A copy of this policy and procedure will be made available to all workplace participants.
  • MPH will only use or disclose personal information for the primary purpose of its collection.
  • All employees are to take reasonable steps to ensure the personal information we collect, use or disclose is accurate, complete and up-to-date and kept confidential. This may require updating the information from time to time.
  • All current candidates or customer’s hard copy files are to be kept with the relevant manager or employee and stored in a secure and confidential location on the premises.

Website Analytics

Affordable Housing Company website implements the use of Google Analytics Advertising Features, such as:

We enable Google Analytics to collect data about our website traffic via Google advertising cookies and anonymous identifiers, in addition to data collected through a standard Google Analytics implemenetation.  We do not facilitate the merging of personally-identifiable information with non-personally identificable information collected through any Google advertising product or feature.  We only use the data gathered to improve the user experience of our website visitors, and to know more about our potential clients and what to offer them.

Disclosure of information

We may disclose your personal information for the purposes for which it is primarily held or for a related secondary purpose. In some cases we may only disclose information with your consent. We may disclose your personal information where we are under a legal duty to do so, including circumstances where we are under a lawful duty of care to disclose information.

Compulsory release of information

There may be circumstances where AHC is contacted in relation to the compulsory release of some of the above information. For example, as a result of AHC supplying the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) with an employees’ tax declaration, a statutory body such as Centrelink or the Child Support Agency may require us to release relevant information to their authority, similarly should one of our suppliers or customers be under investigation for purposes such a fraud, bankruptcy, criminal offences etc. we may be required to release relevant information. In such cases AHC are obliged to comply with the request, without necessarily seeking the relevant individual’s permission.

Complaints and contact details

Anyone who feels that there has been an unwarranted invasion of their privacy should contact the Human Resources Manager.


Subject to some exceptions that are set out in the National Privacy Principles, you can gain access to the personal information that we hold about you. We do refuse access if it would interfere with the privacy rights of other persons or if it breaches any confidentiality that attaches to that information. If you wish to obtain access to your personal information you should contact our Human Resources Manager. You should also anticipate that it may take a little time to process your application for access as there may be a need to retrieve information from storage and review information in order to determine what information may be provided and a nominal fee may be incurred.

Social Media Policy

AHC may engage with customers or prospective customers through social media channels such as Facebook, Youtube, Instagram etc, however no personal information is collected by us through these channels, unless explicit consent is provided by you.
