In the Community

The Affordable Housing Company has a strong commitment towards supporting and giving back to the community locally, nationally and overseas.  In both Queensland and across Australia, our philanthropic work has seen the Affordable Housing Company support a number of charities locally and internationally.  Currently we are working with two charities, Cows for Cambodia and Volunteer Building Cambodia.

Cambodia is one of the world’s poorest nations. All rural families dream to own a cow but the reality is that most families will never be able to afford one.

Cows for Cambodia is essentially a “COW BANK”. We loan families a pregnant cow, they must look after it and when it has the baby they get to keep the baby and we take our cow back. It’s more about providing an opportunity to break the poverty cycle rather than a direct handout.

Volunteer Building Cambodia

Our simple, sturdy Khmer-style wooden houses provide shelter and security for Cambodian families living in need. Poor education, lack of skills and a shortage of job opportunities mean many rural Cambodians are still living in extreme poverty with inadequate shelter.

Our houses replace fragile structures that offer little protection from the elements. We've seen first-hand how improved living conditions change lives, through better sanitation, increased security, better sleeping arrangements and healthier living. Children in secure homes are less likely to get sick and more likely to attend school.

We work with volunteers from around the globe to build safe, dry housing for rural Cambodian families. Volunteers work under the guidance of our skilled building team to construct a house in one week.
